Villages of the Heart is a project exploring the life, history and memories of villages in our region. A special focus of the program in 2014 is on food and culinary history. We’re recording and sharing treasured food memories through the web and in community events, in partnership with Sydney Living Museums’ gastronomer Jacqui Newling.

My Aunt Joan’s Apple Slice – I make it all the time.

4 ounces butter, 2 eggs, 3/4 cup of brown sugar (firmly packed), mix together then add 1 cup plain flour and 1 cup self raising flour. Press half the mixture onto the base of a slice tray, cook for 20 minutes at 180 degrees, put on apple stew, top with remaining pastry and cook for a further 20 minutes
